Rob Gnarly: Riffs, Rails, and Radical Moves

Straight outta Philadelphia, Rob Gnarly holds down the low end in Breathe In, a five-piece metalcore/power metal wrecking crew with roots stretching from New Jersey to New York to Pennsylvania. Born from the raw energy of the North Jersey and NYC music scene, Breathe In isn’t just about playing songs—it’s about delivering a high-voltage experience that ignites every stage they touch.
But Rob’s world isn’t just about breakdowns and blast beats. When he’s not throwing down with Breathe In, he’s deep in the pocket of another passion—fingerboarding. Yeah, the same tiny skateboards that ruled middle school desks are now fueling a full-blown underground movement, and Rob is right in the thick of it.
It all started by chance—a rainy day in Philly, a routine stop at Zembo Temple of Skate and Design, and suddenly, Rob stumbled into a full-on fingerboard contest. The scene was alive, buzzing with the same DIY ethos that fueled punk and hardcore. Skaters weren’t just riding; they were building—handmade boards, custom wheels, handcrafted obstacles. It was pure, unfiltered passion, and Rob was all in.
Then came the moment where his two worlds collided. Late 2024, Breathe In was setting up for their Brooklyn debut, opening for Japan’s metalcore/visual kei juggernauts, Jiluka. The language barrier loomed large—until Rob’s drummer handed him an old Zoo York Tech Deck. One impromptu fingerboard session later, Jiluka’s frontman was grinning ear to ear, their entire band locked in, watching, cheering for that elusive kickflip. He didn’t land it—but the connection was made. No words needed.
Fast forward to 2025, and Rob’s still pushing both passions forward. Breathe In just dropped Fallujah, the first of several new singles set to hit this year. Meanwhile, he’s got another project brewing—an underground, DIY fingerboard street park somewhere in Philly. The location? Undisclosed. The mission? Pure, unfiltered creativity. Stay tuned.
